Playdough Recipe

When my children were little we used to love making this recipe. The best part is watching the mixture change from a goo to a solid ball of play dough. The kids played with it right out of the pot and enjoyed the warmth on their hands as they kneaded it out. Give them some plastic cutlery or a cookie cutter to help them with their creations.

Cooked Play Dough

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cup salt
  • 6 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Food coloring

Mix flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a large saucepan. Mix water and oil together in a bowl. Add to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Add several drops of food coloring until you get the right color. Cook for about five minutes, until the mixture is no longer sticky/gooey. Place play dough on counter and let cool for a few minutes. Add additional flour if it’s too sticky.

Store in airtight containers.
