Fun Summer Activities to do with Your Children in the Okanagan

With the children out of school, the feeling of cooped up can quickly become an issue, but there is no reason for your children to be bored in the Okanagan area during the summertime! The Kelowna region is known to get high amounts of sunshine, making summer a great time to get out and do something fun as a family. Whether you live locally or you’re planning a trip to the Okanagan this summer, here are some ideas from Nannies On Call to do with your children:

Outdoor Fun in the Okanagan

The Okanagan offers so many different outdoor activities for families, like swimming in the beautiful Okanagan Lake, biking, and hiking. If you like nature and want to share the experience of camping, roasting marshmallows, fishing and singing campfire songs, the Okanagan camping experience is a blast. Be sure to check out Okanagan Falls and Bear Creek campsites!

Planet Bee Honey Farm

A great learning experience for children, the Planet Bee Honey Farm shows how honey is made. Children can watch the bees in a safe environment, through a glass window, as well as taste different types of treats made from honey. The gift shop has everything honey and bees, and children will also learn the amazing benefits of honey and many different statistics about bees and honey.

Atlantis Water Slides

When the hot weather really comes in, there’s nothing better than cooling off in a park full of different water slides for the children. Pack a lunch, bring some friends, and don’t forget the sunscreen! A family of four can enjoy a whole day having fun for about $70. In addition to the water slides, there is also a mini golf course, a concession stand to fill the tummies, and a gift shop.

Farmer John’s Petting Zoo Animals and Exotic Birds

Set on a beautiful plot of nature, Farmer John’s Petting Zoo allows children to visit with goats, peacocks, rabbits, pot belly pigs, donkeys, lamas, and guinea pigs. There are walk-through tours or you can hop on the tour wagons with the kids, pulled around by golf carts. Concession stands sell hot dogs and drinks, floats, milkshakes, and ice cream, and you can eat inside the comfy country style parlor or eat outside in the fresh air.

O’Keefe Ranch

If your children love animals, O’Keefe Ranch also provides the farm experience. In addition, there are historical buildings to see, a blacksmith shop, a saddle shop, and moms will love the pottery barn. The kids will get a kick out of how the people are dressed, just like they stepped out of a Wild West movie.
