The chic new baby boutique has opened its doors in Yaletown featuring a range of hip clothing, eco-friendly product lines, stylish furniture and signature gifts. Sommer Sawchuk owner of the boutique sources the best product from around the globe, a range of the quality labels from Europe to the coolest Vancouver based brands. The boutique also offers some unique services.
Sawchuk knows style as well was she knows her products. Her priority is doing the research for her time-crunched customers. Says Sawchuk “They don’t have time to do the kind of legwork that is necessary, so I do it for them. The equipment, clothes, furniture and products that we bring in to Saf and Benjamin are consistently rated in the top three in product surveys”.
The boutique is located on Marinaside Crescent, a stone’s throw from Cooper’s Park (cleverly situated under the Cambie St Bridge) Vancouver’s only guaranteed rain free outdoor playground. Yaletown is Canada’s fastest growing urban neighborhood, with more and more families embracing the urban lifestyle. The locals are known for loving the finer things in life, from gourmet food, to designer strollers, so a chic boutique for their babies is long overdue. The boutique is also the only baby boutique in the downtown Vancouver core.
Sawchuk decided to open her business after feeling frustrated with the level of customer service and lack of product knowledge she experienced as a consumer in the baby product market. Anyone who has shopped at the big box baby stores and experienced the vacant looks on the salespeople’s faces when asked even the most basic product knowledge question can relate.
Says Sawchuk “I’ve wasted a lot of money on improperly fit shoes for my daughter or on outfits that I couldn’t return after I had brought them home and realized the sizing was off. In my opinion, if a store is selling children’s shoes, special care should be taken by the salesperson to properly recommend and fit the right shoes. When it comes to children’s merchandise period, a flexible return policy should always be offered. At saf & benjamin, customer service is essential and staff has extensive product knowledge. Exchanges and returns are stress-free and if baby needs a change we have a spacious, softly-lit and clean family restroom. Happy customers are my priority.”
On the horizon for saf & benjamin: signature gift bundles and delivery, Bugaboo on the floor for June; a deluxe baby equipment rental service to accommodate Vancouver’s booming tourism sector and a substantial investment in shoe inventory for Fall, featuring brands such as Native, Toms, Baby Bloch, Hunter and Minnetonka.
When the time comes for a new baby to join the family, saf & benjamin will definitely be on the discerning mama’s speed dial. This boutique is full of extraordinary finds and is quickly becoming Vancouver’s source for hip young families and those who shop for them.
